Leveraging our ability to manufacture non-standard and unusual cross-sections, at R.C. Coil Spring Mfg. Co., Inc., we produced the magazine spring shown here for a client in the defense industry. Used in a 30 round, 9 mm firearm, it featured 23.5 coils in a finished length of 14.0" with elliptical O.D. of .680" x 1.105". We produced it from .048" thick music wire using our automatic CNC coiling machinery, which has the capacity to accurately and repeatable form unique profiles at fast throughput rates.
Quality assurance involved in-house visual inspection as well as dimensional measurement to ensure we upheld both tolerances and free length variation to ± 0.001". We produced 25,000 of these high quality springs in a 4-5 week timeline after setup.
