Formed Stainless Steel Compression Spring for the Aerospace Industry
In business for more than 50 years, we have experience in a broad range of industries and are equipped to serve the unique needs of each. At R.C. Coil Spring Mfg. Co., Inc., we formed the stainless steel compression spring shown here for use in critical aerospace test equipment. It featured 13.1 coils, free length of 0.930", and diameter of .247". Intended for use as the upper spring in a hardness gauge designed for testing heat tiles, the specifications called for tight ± 0.005" dimensional tolerances and load rating of 13 ± 0.13 lbs.
By paying careful attention to every detail, tightly controlled manufacturing, and precision grinding, we were able to produce the part repeatedly within the defined tolerances. Quality assurance procedures involved load testing, rate testing, as well as visual inspections. Current production for this component is lots of 10,000 units, which we produce in a 3-4 week time frame to meet the client’s production schedule.
